Zoom Etiquette

After reading Seth Godin’s blog post on Zoom meetings, it made me think about how virtual meetings will be the norm and that there is an unwritten code of conduct for Zoom meetings. I will attempt to write this down though.
- If it’s not going to entice people to converse and discuss, cancel the meeting. Utilize breakout rooms to get more in-depth conversations going. Don’t fall into the “it could have been an email” syndrome.
- Don’t multitask. It’s plain rude. This is the equivalent to the “being on your cell phone in an in-person meeting” trait. Be present.
- I haven’t tried this out yet, but calling on people in the meeting to share. I have still erred on the side of letting people “get off mute to speak up for themselves” train, just out of politeness. This will encourage people to be engaged, since you’d hate to be the person caught off guard. (However, this also seems a bit elementary school-like.)
What other tips and tricks do you have up your sleeve for Zoom meetings?
